Some Good Advice From The Building and Planning Departments
When building an addition, adding a garage or garden shed on your property,
make sure you know what the required setbacks are. BE SAFE, NOT SORRY. Before
you begin your project, confirm your propertys setbacks by calling
the Building Inspector or Planner at the District of Hope Office. Failure
to do so may require the removal of the construction.
There are some projects around your home that will require a building permit
from the District of Hope. Here is a list of common projects where a permit
is or is not required:
Building Permits are not required when:
- Building a garden shed (up to 10 sq. meters - Check your property setbacks)
- Re-roofing
- Building a fence
- Paving a driveway
Building Permits are required when:
- Building a garage
- Building an addition
- Renovating your home
- Building a new home
- Making structural changes that may effect health and safety
(i.e. removal of doors, windows)
