Tools
Before you can start working, you need the right tools. First of all, you
need an FTP client. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, and you use it
to upload your files to the web server. CuteFTP is a simple to use program,
and it comes on your Uniserve internet startup disk. It might be a good
idea to get a current version, though. You can download a free evaluation
copy at www.cuteftp.com.
To view your web pages, you need a web browser. Internet Explorer comes
with most Win95 machines, and a lot of people have rebelled and
installed Navigator. But the best browser is Opera. Get it from
www.operasofware.com.
There are a lot of differences between Navigator and Explorer, they are
both blazing their own path of development. So sometimes the same page
will look different on different browsers. Opera is different. This
browser most closely follows the HTML standard. If it looks good in
Opera, it will look good in any browser. Using Opera in the first place
will save you having to test and refine for more than one browser.
Two thumbs up!
