Hope Community Services remains a legal
partner with Abbotsford Community Services, Chilliwack Community Services,
Agassiz-Harrison Community Services, and the Boston Enhancement Society, to provide the
Health Canada Capc program in our region. We
continue to be the host agency for the partners with Health Canada.
Part of our agreement with our partners
is that we ensure that all the regional reporting is complete and on time. Throughout the region the programming provided by
the partners differs slightly, this is dependent on the needs of the individual
communities. In Hope we have developed a
family place center.
Hope Family Place is a drop-in center
for families with children under the age of seven. Parents
have opportunities to learn about parenting issues, to interact with other parents, and to
build a support network. Activities such as
community kitchens, first aide classes, presentations from Public Health, Alcohol and Drug
programs, etc., are some of the activities provided. Children are given opportunities to
learn social skills, craft making, singing, and safety issues, etc.
Family Place is located at 345 Park
Street where our Family Service Workers also work. By being co-located with the Family
Service workers this has increased the amount of activity in the building as well as
increased the exposure of both Hope Family Place and Family Service Workers to our
community. Co-locating them in the same
building has also created a natural point of contact and introduction between the
consumers of Hope Family Place services and the workers who might become involved in a
counseling capacity in their future.
Hope Family Place is open Tuesday,
Thursday and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday
and Friday are for parents and their children between 0-6 years old while Thursday is
reserved for parents and their children who are 2 ½ and under.
On average we have been having
between 90-120 adult visits and 100-150 child visits per month.
