This area includes the communities of Dog wood Valley, Yale , Spuzzum, Boston Bar, North Bend, Canyon Alpine, Boothroyd, Sunshine Valley, Ruby Creek, Laidlaw, and Othello Tunnels.

The purpose of this society is to identify and attempt to meet the Hope area’s unmet social needs, through a coordinated system of volunteer services working cooperatively with statutory agencies; through receiving enabling funds from senior governments, local governments, and other sources; and through providing the organizational structure, facilities, and staff necessary to achieve this aim.

In 1976 several community members felt that there was a need in the Hope area for a thrift store selling used clothing. A society was formed and registered in January of 1979. The thrift store was initially run by volunteers under the direction of the Board of Directors.  At the present time Hope Community Services employees 20 staff, and approximately 125 volunteers. There are nine provincial grants, three federal grants, and numerous donations used to implement many different programs. The major fund raiser for the agency is still the thrift store, now staffed by a part-time manager, and volunteers.

The D istrict of Hope is a community of 7100 people (1991 census), located 150 km (100 miles) from Vancouver about an hour and forty minute drive on Highway #1. Settled on a curve of the Fraser River, the surrounding Coast and Cascade Mountains have traditionally provided economic opportunities for Hope residents. With the inclusion of the residents of the surrounding area the population increases to approximately 9000.

The agency proves a range of services to seniors, youth , families, as well as a volunteer bureau, thrift store, hostel, senior programming, food bank, emergency social services, and alcohol and drug programming. For more detailed information about services please see the program descriptions on the program page.
